Project Background

The Children’s Museum of Phoenix is an indoor hands-on museum for children ages birth to 10. With a growing competitive market and a need for a digital marketer, I was hired as the Social Media Coordinator.

Within my first year, Facebook followers increased by 21%, Instagram followers increased by 83%, and Twitter followers increased by 10%. Through social media campaigns, I assisted the Museum with winning awards, such as Reader’s Digest 10 Best Children’s Museum in America in 2018 and Arizona Foothills’ Best Museum in 2019.

My time at the Children’s Museum of Phoenix formed me into becoming the Social Media Marketer I am today. By having the creative freedom to develop content, I was able to follow the trends and create a stronger bond with the Museum’s online audience.

As the Social Media Coordinator, I was tasked with building the online presence of the Museum and increasing brand awareness, brand sentiment, and engagement.

My experience at the Museum included:

  • Developing the online brand voice and personality.

  • Determining best practices for social media.

  • Creating a crisis communication plan.

  • Managing an influencer program, titled PLAYfluencers.

  • Managing a brand ambassador program, titled Parent’s Panel.

  • Daily responsibilities, such as scheduling posts, writing copy, working on creative, and researching trends.

Museum at Home

During the pandemic, the Museum was temporarily closed from March 2020 through October 2020. While the Museum’s doors were closed, staff members wished to connect with our community through social media. As the Social Media Coordinator, I worked closely with the Education Department to create daily videos of crafts and hands-on activities that kids can do at home.

Brand sentiment increased as engagement increased by 6% and tagged content increased by 12%, as more members were sharing photos of them following along with the videos.

From this campaign, I had the opportunity to practice my content creation skills through video producing and editing.
